Ad-hoc connectivity on DOS machines

Using laplink LPT/Serial cables

Laplink serial/lpt cables are non standard crossover cables that are especially designed for file transfer.
You can buy them on ebay. Also you can make your own laplink cables.

Connect the two computers using a null modem cable or a LapLink (parallel-parallel) cable. The latter is preferable as it is faster. Ensure that the parallel ports of both machines are set to (in order of preference) ECP, EPP, Bi-directional (PS/2) or …

Run Time Error 200 (Divide by Zero) is usually caused by a bug in older versions of Turbo Pascal and Borland Pascal compilers (version 6 and earlier). The bug was specifically in the CRT.ASM unit included with these compilers.

Long Names. A long file name is considered to be any file name that exceeds the short MS-DOS (also called 8.3) style naming convention. When you create a long file name, Windows may also create a short 8.3 form of the name, called the 8.3 alias or short name, and store it on disk also.

MS-DOS did not have a built-in graphical shell, third-party programs provided a graphical user interface that made it easier for users to interact with the operating system. There were also several graphical user interfaces (GUIs) that were available for MS-DOS, which provided a full-screen graphical environment. These GUIs provided users with a more user-friendly interface for MS-DOS, and helped to pave the way for the widespread adoption of graphical operating systems such as Windows.

MS-DOS Wifi Page

Something few people know is that you can connect a vintage computer to your WLAN or Tether it to your Cellular device via WiFi. The problems are security protocols, and the limited selection of WiFi Cards for your vintage computer. Also, WiFi does limit your access choices quite a bit too, but does offer some benefits in security through the designs on this page.

In short it's wifi adapter for your old computer that connects to the serial port.

This is an implementation of a SLIP (Serial Line IP - RFC1055) router on the ESP8266. It can be used as simple (and slow) network interface to get WiFi connectivity. It transparently forwards any IP traffic through it. As it uses NAT no routing entries are required on the other side.
